Argentina Seizes $30M in Illegal Auto Parts

Buenos Aires, March 6 — Over 220 illegal auto parts worth $30 million were seized in a workshop in the Villa Ortúzar neighborhood, and judicial authorities have charged the manager. Police sources informed the Argentine News Agency that personnel from the City Police's Division of Vehicle and Auto Parts Theft carried out the operation in a mechanical and body shop located on Montenegro Street at 1600. Officers found several disassembled vehicles and loose auto parts stacked up, some of them packaged and ready for commercialization, while they interviewed the manager, who recognized the lack of proper documentation for the sale of the materials. In this context, the officials confiscated 30 doors, 25 tires, 20 radiators, 15 hoods, 15 shock absorbers, as well as trunk lids, fenders, cylinder head covers, alternators, brake discs, clutch discs, headlights, assembled wheels, bumpers, batteries, coils, fuel tanks, gearboxes, seats, two rear axles, and a complete air conditioning unit. The Penal, Contravention and Misdemeanor Prosecutor's Office No. 35 ordered the seizure of the items, valued at 30,000,000 pesos. In turn, it notified the manager of the property, a 67-year-old man, for violating Law 25.761 on Vehicle Dismantling and Auto Parts.
